GRATIS 7 MEDIA GROUP
Stories that move people.
Education that equips storytellers.
Why We Exist
We believe stories can change the way people see one another and the world around them. Gratis 7 Media Group exists to create meaningful documentary films, support the people and communities behind those stories, and equip filmmakers to bring important stories into the world.
History
Filmmaker T.C. Johnstone founded Gratis 7 Media Group in 2007 around a simple idea: use the power of film to tell stories that matter and move people toward meaningful action.
What began with documentary filmmaking has grown into a private operating foundation focused on two interconnected areas:
- Creating meaningful films
- Educating filmmakers to tell stories that make a difference
Nearly two decades later, that remains at the heart of our work. Gratis 7 Media Group is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit private operating foundation based in Boulder, Colorado.

“For twenty five years, I’ve tried to tell stories that remind people their lives have purpose, that we have more in common than we think, and that there’s a bigger story we’re all invited into. "
